James Speiran information on the Speiran family tree web site, Lilla's cousin Blanch Edna
Speiran (1890-1945) married a James Clifford Brethour (1896-1975) c. 1921. Is this James any
relation to Hazel Priscilla Zella Brethour (1909-2002)?
LDS records transcribed by Caroline Dyk show a William V. "Cunnyworth" married in
Toronto, c. July 1, 1914.
Harriette Speiran emailed me a jpeg copy of the marriage registration
certificate (Registration # 004082, registered Aug 8, 1914), in which William's age is
listed as 28 and hers as 27. William's address at the time of marriage (and Lilla's
"residence when married") was 644 Wellington St., occupation finisher. Lilla's
birthplace was given as Vroomanton, Ontario. Religion for both: Presbyterian. Witnessed by
George Hartwell Speiran and Mabel Margaret Keith. Lilla's name was spelled "Lillia
Ella Maud" by the registrar, but she signed it "Lilla E. M. Speiran"
The couple are listed as witnesses for the marriage of Lilla's sister, Henrietta May, and their
address is given as 31 Turner Avenue, Toronto. (source?)
They lived at 120 Strachan Ave. in Toronto at the time of their son Melvin's birth and
death, c. Nov 11, 1916. Lilla's name is spelled "Spierman" in Melvin's
LDS death registration record.
According to my father, Ron Cunneyworth, William was an Orangeman, Master of the
Order of the Blue. This is particularly interesting, considering the fact that William's
sister Eliza Jane and his brother Ernest Edgar both married Catholics.
William died of coronary thrombosis c. April 15, 1940, in Toronto (medical
attendant: J. Laudon).
